SAN JUAN, PR-Special Agent in Charge Douglas A. Leff, of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) San Juan Field Office, announced the arrest of Randy Rivera-Nevarez and Domingo Emanuel Bruno-Cotto at Toa Baja, Puerto Rico.
A criminal complaint issued on Aug. 27, 2019, charging Rivera-Nevarez and Bruno-Cotto with “Carjacking with serious bodily injury" in violation of Title 18 United States Code 2119(2). Rivera-Nevarez was additionally charged with “Hobbs Act Robbery-interference with commerce by threats or violence" in violation of Tile 18 United States Code, Section 1951(a).
If convicted Rivera-Nevarez and Bruno-Cotto face a maximum term of imprisonment of 25 Years for carjacking and additionally Rivera-Nevarez faces a maximum of 20 years for Hobbs Act Robbery.
The case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney (AUSA) Jonathan Gottfried and investigated by the FBI.
The public is reminded a criminal complaint contains only charges and is not evidence of guilt. A defendant is presumed to be innocent until and unless proven guilty. The U.S. government has the burden of proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
