The United States remains committed to supporting Ukraine in its military defense against Russia six months after Russia's unprovoked invasion of Ukraine, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in a statement earlier this month.
Blinken announced a $775 million drawdown of military equipment for Ukraine, the nineteenth since last September, in an Aug. 19 statement. The arms, munitions and other equipment "that Ukraine’s forces have used so effectively for their country’s defense," is drawn from the U.S. Department of Defense inventory, the statement reports.
"The courage and strength of Ukraine’s military and its people are extraordinary," Blinken wrote in the statement, "and the United States will continue to provide additional systems and capabilities for Ukraine that are 'carefully calibrated" to strengthen Ukraine's positions on both the battlefield and at the negotiating table, according to the statement.
The U.S. and its partners from more than 50 countries are united in their efforts to provide security assistance to Ukraine's defense of its territory and sovereignty as "President Putin’s forces continue to inflict grievous harm on civilians and massive destruction of civilian infrastructure," Blinken wrote in the statement.
Since the beginning of President Joseph Biden's administration, the U.S. has sent $10.6 billion in assistance to Ukraine and is ready to continue that support, according to the statement.
"President Biden has been clear that we will continue to support the people of Ukraine in defending their country from Russia’s aggression for as long as it takes," Blinken wrote.
