HUNTINGTON, W.Va. - Donnie Earl Jefferson Jr., 34, of Huntington, pleaded guilty today to being a felon in possession of a firearm.
According to court documents and statements made in court, Jefferson admitted that he possessed a Remington, model RM380,.380-caliber pistol in his pants pocket when law enforcement officers arrested him in Huntington on Sept. 28, 2021.
Federal law prohibits a person with a prior felony conviction from possessing a firearm or ammunition. Jefferson knew he was prohibited from possessing a firearm because of his felony conviction for first-degree robbery in Cabell County Circuit Court on Dec. 17, 2012.
Jefferson is scheduled to be sentenced on Nov. 21, 2022, and faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison, up to three years of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine.
United States Attorney Will Thompson made the announcement and commended the investigative work of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the United States Marshals Service.
United States District Judge Robert C. Chambers presided over the hearing. Assistant United States Attorney Stephanie S. Taylor is prosecuting the case.
