Agriculture Committee and the bills it addressed on Aug. 30

The Agriculture Committee handled H.Con.Res.103 bill on Aug. 30, according to the US Congress.

Bill H.Con.Res.103 titled “Expressing the sense of Congress that August 30, 2021, be observed as the 131st anniversary of the 1890 Institutions” was referred to the House Committee on Agriculture by the House of Representatives. The bill is sponsored by Rep. Alma Adams with Sanford Bishop, Cheri Bustos, Ro Khanna, Al Lawson, Mark Pocan, David Scott, Terri Sewell, David Trone, Michael Turner as cosponsors.

The Agriculture Committee moves forward in some way on one bill per day.

Most bills have a hearing where those involved explain why they are for or against the bill. Roughly 8,000 bills are addressed by committees each year but only about 800 make it to the floor of Congress, according to ushistory.org.

A 2019 report from the Brookings Institute argued committees aren’t capable of delving fully into the issues they address and are forced to rely on lobbyists.
