BLM Colorado Honors LouAnn Jacobson with 2010 Stewardship Award

Bureau of Land Management Colorado Associate State Director John Mehlhoff presented retired Canyons of the Ancients National Monument Manager LouAnn Jacobson with the third annual Eric Finstick Stewardship Award today.The award recognizes the contribution of BLM employees in managing BLM’s special places, through remembrance of long-time BLM Colorado Wilderness Coordinator Eric Finstick.“Eric was an exemplary steward of public lands and was dedicated to preserving wilderness and the public’s special places," said Mehlhoff. “LouAnn’s dedication to environmental stewardship and strong leadership since the Monument’s designation in 2000 were essential to its success."In the 10 years since the Monument’s designation, Jacobson's passion for the area resulted in improved condition and vitality of numerous natural, cultural and recreational resources. Under Jacobson's leadership, the Monument recently completed its resource management plan through a collaborative process. The partnerships that she established as a part of the cooperative conservation program have significantly broadened the scope of preservation and advocacy in the Four Corners region of the United States.Jacobson retired in October 2010 and is currently volunteering at the Anasazi Heritage Center.
