GUNNISON, Colo. - On Saturday, Nov. 30, local police and firefighters responded to a fire and break-in at the Bureau of Land Management’s Gunnison Field Office. An investigation is ongoing after local law enforcement authorities discovered missing and damaged equipment at the scene.
The building sustained smoke damage and broken windows, and some computers and office furniture were destroyed.
“All of the local BLM employees are accounted for and are safe, and we appreciate the local police and fire departments’ quick response," said Brian St. George, BLM Gunnison Field Manager. “Currently, we are working to determine the best options for moving forward following the incident."
The BLM office located at 650 South 11th St. in Gunnison is closed until further notice. Information regarding the office reopening will be announced as soon as possible. In the interim, the public should contact the Montrose Public Lands Center at 970-240-5300.
