GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. -- The Bureau of Land Management is offering a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for stealing 3,000 pounds of steel range targets from the BLM’s public shooting range at 27 ¼ Road.
The theft occurred sometime between Sept. 15, 2013 and Jan. 14, 2014. The targets are valued at more than $3,000 and awaiting installation as part of a BLM and Mesa County project to improve and upgrade the popular shooting range.
“This shooting range is heavily used, so this theft affects a number of people in the Grand Junction area," said Grand Junction Field Manager Katie Stevens.
The targets were going to be installed as high-caliber, long-range targets. The targets are ovals cut from high-grade steel. They are approximately 1 ¾-inch thick, 3-feet high, and 2-feet wide. The oval target is hanging from a steel frame constructed from plow blade steel. The target is attached to the frame using 3-4 large chain links. A few of the targets are slightly smaller, but are constructed identically.
