FAIRBANKS - The Bureau of Land Management is looking to host an artist for two weeks in the Yukon River community of Eagle, Alaska, as part of its new Artist-in-Residence program.
The summer Artist in Residence in Eagle is open to emerging or established artists working in nearly any media - including painting, printmaking, photography, writing, and music. The BLM provides transportation between Fairbanks and Eagle and housing during the stay in Eagle.
Artists are expected to donate the use of a piece of artwork inspired by their time in Eagle to help promote public lands.
“The history of Eagle and Fort Egbert is an important piece of Alaska history," said Acting Eastern Interior Field Manager Michael Gibson. “We’re hoping that an artist’s fresh perspective might help us shine more light on some of these local treasures and how they blend into the fabric of Alaska’s landscape."
The BLM plans on offering several residencies annually in different seasons and locations, including another in the Eagle or Fortymile region and a winter residency in the White Mountains National Recreation Area near Fairbanks.
