CANON CITY, Colo. - Beginning in early September, firefighters from the Royal Gorge Interagency Fire Unit plan to conduct pile burns if conditions warrant.

The High Park Subdivision Project, located near County Road 11 and County Road 352, includes 50 piles of Ponderosa Pine and Piñon Juniper within a 20-acre area. The prescribed burn is scheduled to take advantage of the current moisture and wet fuels.

Firefighters will monitor weather conditions to ensure burning occurs during favorable conditions. Firefighters will continue to check the piles after ignition until the piles are out.
