LAKEWOOD, Colo. - The Bureau of Land Management has named long-time employee Joe Meyer as the new Northwest Colorado District Manager based in Grand Junction.
Meyer comes to BLM Colorado from Wyoming, where he has been the Field Manager for the BLM Casper Field Office since 2008.
“Joe brings wealth of experience to the position," said BLM Colorado State Director Ruth Welch. “His commitment to working with the public and local cooperators will be a tremendous asset to BLM Colorado."
Meyer has been with the BLM for 25 years in Wyoming, where he has worked as a hydrologist, assistant field manager, and field manager. He holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point in watershed management and resource management with an emphasis in soil science.
Meyer will lead the BLM Northwest District, which includes 5 million surface acres and 8.4 million acres of mineral estate in the Colorado River Valley (Silt), Grand Junction, Kremmling, Little Snake (Craig) and White River (Meeker) field offices.
“I am excited about this opportunity in Grand Junction," Meyer said. “The Northwest District faces a number of challenging issues that require close coordination with a variety of stakeholders."
Joe and his wife Anne have two grown children. They enjoy camping, fishing and hiking.
Meyer fills the position vacated by Jim Cagney, who retired this spring. Meyer reports to Grand Junction Sept. 22.
