CRAIG, Colo. - The Bureau of Land Management Little Snake Field Office opened some popular Emerald Mountain trails on June 27 ahead of the scheduled opening day.
The Emerald Mountain Special Recreation Management Area trails south of Ridge Trail were opened early due to unseasonably warm weather conditions.
A Dec. 1 - June 30 seasonal closure applies to trails in the Emerald Mountain SRMA in Zone 2 and south of Ridge Trail in Zone 1 to protect wintering and calving elk. This closure corresponds with Colorado Parks and Wildlife lands to the east of the SRMA and the Humble Ranch property to the southeast. Only the Ridge Trail and trails north of Ridge Trail are open year-round.
“After discussions with CPW, all public lands at the Emerald Mountain SRMA will be open for recreational use due to the unseasonably warm weather conditions that have occurred this year." stated Wendy Reynolds, field manager, Little Snake Field Office.
