MONTROSE, Colo. - The Independence Day celebrations are right around the corner and the Bureau of Land Management officials in southwest Colorado would like to remind the public that setting off fireworks on public lands is prohibited. This prohibition includes BLM recreational facilities, campgrounds, parking lots, and administrative roadways.
“BLM firefighters and law enforcement officers count on the public to help reduce wild land fire hazards and risks," said Ted Moe, BLM Law Enforcement Officer. “We appreciate the public’s help as they enjoy the holiday weekend."

The penalty for setting off fireworks on public lands is a Class A Misdemeanor, punishable up to one year in jail, a $100,000 dollar fine or a combination of both. If you see someone setting off fireworks on public lands, please contact the BLM law enforcement at 970-240-5300.
