The Bureau of Land Management Eastern States (BLM ES) today announced that it is rescheduling the oil and gas lease sale previously scheduled for Dec. 10, 2015. It will be held concurrently with the next quarterly oil and gas lease sale already scheduled for March 17, 2016. A formal notice of the March lease sale will be published shortly.
The nine parcels that would have been offered in December will be made available March 17, 2016. They include two parcels in Arkansas of 80 acres each; and seven parcels in Michigan totaling 427.01 acres.
The BLM posts to its website all environmental analyses in advance of any quarterly oil & gas lease sale. Such analyses identify potential environmental impacts and restrictions that may mitigate them. More information about these parcels may be found on the BLM Eastern States website by clicking on the following link: December sale notice. Also visit the BLM ES website for more general information about our minerals program: http://www.blm.gov/es/st/en/prog/minerals.html.
The Bureau of Land Management implements Federal statutes and regulations to ensure safe and responsible energy development where it is appropriate to do so. For most Federal oil and gas leases, 49 percent of the revenues collected are returned to the states where the oil and gas activity occurs. Fifty-one percent of the revenues go to a Federal reclamation fund for water projects and the general Treasury.
