BLM plans prescribed pile burns in Phantom Canyon

The following press releases was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Land Management on Dec. 8, 2015. It is reproduced in full below.

CANON CITY, Colo. - The Bureau of Land Management Front Range Fire Management Unit will be conducting pile burns in Phantom Canyon starting this week. The piles consist of accumulated debris from the flooding earlier this year and will help reduce impacts from future flooding events.

The BLM estimates the burn will include approximately 25 piles in the southern portion of Phantom Canyon. Phantom Canyon Road will remain closed during the burn operation.

Smoke from the prescribed burns will be visible throughout the day of the burn, mostly during the warmest part of the day. With cooler temperatures in the evening, smoke may linger and accumulate in low lying areas.

According to the Colorado Air Quality Division, "prescribed fire smoke may affect your health." For more information see https://www.colorado.gov/airquality/aqidev/advisory.aspx
