Some Fees to Increase at Sand Flats Recreation Area

The following press releases was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Land Management on Dec. 15, 2015. It is reproduced in full below.

Moab, Utah-The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Utah Moab Field Office and Grand County have announced that on Jan. 1, 2016, some fees will increase for use of the Sand Flats Recreation Area near Moab, Utah. The additional funds will help mitigate impacts from increases in visitation, and will be used to upgrade and add campsites, and improve parking lots, roads, and trails.

The Sand Flats Recreation Area is managed under a cooperative agreement between Grand County and the Bureau of Land Management. Visitation at this site has increased 23 percent since fees were last amended in 2009 and the cost of providing services has steadily increased.

While the standard day-use fee of $5 per vehicle will not change, the camping fee will increase from $10 per vehicle to $15 per vehicle per night. The utility trailer fee will increase from $2 to $5 per trailer. The annual pass fee of $20, which has not changed since 1998, will increase to $25. The group campsite rates will increase from $50 to $70 per night.
