Southwest Resource Advisory Council Oil and Gas Sub-group announces Master Leasing Plan comment period closure

MONTROSE, Colo.-The Bureau of Land Management’s Southwest Resource Advisory Council Oil and Gas sub-group encourages the public to submit comments regarding federal oil and gas leasing and a potential master leasing plan in western La Plata and eastern Montezuma counties by Friday, Apr. 8.

Over the past five months, the sub-group gathered information and worked to identify key issues relevant to the “area of interest" within the BLM Tres Rios Field Office. Now, the sub-group considering this information as well as all of the public comments submitted to provide recommendations to the BLM Southwest Resource Advisory Council.

The Southwest RAC is one of three advisory councils to the BLM Colorado. Composed of 15 members appointed by the Secretary of the Interior, individuals serving in each RAC represent diverse public land interests, ranging from environmental to local government to commercial activity. The Oil and Gas sub-group is comprised of four RAC members plus 17 community representatives. It was created to facilitate public information and engagement regarding oil and gas development in southwest Colorado.
