BLM Announces Recent Closure on the Little South Fork Elk River Trail

The following press releases was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Land Management on March 30, 2016. It is reproduced in full below.

ARCATA, Calif. - The Little South Fork Elk River Trail, located 3 miles from the Headwaters Forest Reserve parking area, will be temporarily closed starting March 31 due to muddy trail conditions. The closure is necessary to protect the public’s health and safety, as well as the environmental integrity of the trail.

The first 3 miles of the Elk River Trail will remain open to hikers, bicyclists, and dog walkers. The first mile of this trail is accessible for those with limited mobility and contains a variety of interpretive signs about the area's forest resources and rich cultural history. The closure will be lifted when trail conditions improve.

For more information about the Headwaters Forest Reserve contact the BLM Arcata Field Office at (707) 825-2300 or the office website at www.blm.gov/ca/arcata.
