REDDING, Calif. -- The Shasta Historic Mining Park, McConnell Foundation, Redding Mountain Bike Club and the Bureau of Land Management will celebrate the dedication of the Middle Creek Rock Creek trail system and Redding Bike Month with a public event featuring entertainment, food, information booths, and free bike rides.
This event is scheduled for Saturday May 7th from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Shasta Historic Mining Park, six miles west of Redding on State Route 299. Free bike rides begin at 10:30 with the dedication ceremony planned for noon.
This new trail system connects the existing Sacramento River Rail Trail and the Sacramento River Trail totaling nearly eight miles of trail. This extensive paved trail network offers stunning views of the river and nearby mountains. "This dedication celebrates all the community partners who have worked together for the past 10 years to create one of the premier trail destinations in the West," said Bill Kuntz, recreation supervisor for the BLM in Redding. Everyone is encouraged to ride their bikes in recognition of Redding Bike Month and reduce the need for parking.
