UKIAH, Calif. - Beginning in June and running through September, the Homestake Mining Company will be removing historic surface mining-related materials at five historic mine sites located on private property in Colusa County. Access into the Sulphur Creek Mining District is through lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management Ukiah Field Office.
This remediation project is in accordance with the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board's plan for controlling the discharge of native mercury from inactive mines in the Sulphur Creek watershed.
Homestake will be posting signs alerting travelers of access limitations due to heavy equipment in the area and other notifications to ensure safety for everyone within the construction area. Travelers to the vicinity are encouraged to use caution and stay alert for construction signs.
