Winnemucca, Nev. - The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Winnemucca District, welcomes back Robert Towne to the Acting District Manager position. Towne, who was the Acting District Manager for the Winnemucca District from the beginning of August through the end of October, 2015, was requested to return to the position while it is currently being advertised. Towne will serve in this position for approximately four-months starting July 19.

A 38-year veteran of the federal government, Towne has worked with the BLM in the Northwest, including Idaho, Oregon, and Washington State. Throughout his extensive career, he spent time in Washington, D.C. as the Deputy Assistant Director for the National Landscape Conservation System and Community Partnerships. Though Towne is retired, he has served interim roles as the District Manager for the BLM Eugene District in 2014, the Winnemucca District in 2015, and as an advisor to the District Manager for the Burns District in 2016.

"I look forward to reuniting with exceptional employees and a supportive community as we continue managing our area's incredible natural resources," says Robert Towne, “I hope to support the district as we continue our progress to a stable and engaged organization."

Towne brings with him a high level of experience relating to natural resource issues and concerns in Nevada, the Burning Man festival, community relations, and District personnel, which made him an obvious choice for selection into the Acting District Manager role.
