SUSANVILLE, Calif. - The first phase of a project to improve off-highway vehicle (OHV) recreation opportunities at the Rice Canyon OHV area east of Susanville has been completed and the area is now open for riding and driving.
Bureau of Land Management Outdoor Recreation Planner Marisa Williams said work included road and trailhead improvements and completion of a small picnic area. The second phase of the project will begin next spring. Crews will construct OHV loading ramps and install a shade structure and vault toilet. Work will also include trail connections and trail stability improvements.
The project was funded by the California Department of Parks and Recreation Off-Highway Motor Vehicle (OHV) Recreation Division.
The 105-acre recreation site 10 miles from Susanville provides easily accessible opportunities for riders of all abilities. There are steep hill-climb areas and sections suitable for novice riders to improve their skills.
