New Trail Trek Exhibit at the NHTIC

The following press releases was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Land Management on Dec. 16, 2016. It is reproduced in full below.

Come view the new temporary exhibit at the National Historic Trails Interpretive Center, “Escape from the Present into the Past," to view how teens related to an escape from their normal summer routine.

Teens, teachers, volunteers and BLM staff stepped back in time for a three day wagon trek along the historic trails during the summer of 2016. The youth then helped co-produce the exhibit which documents their experience with our local history

The exhibit reflects upon teen interactions with local history and local historic sites. “My wagon trail experience was educational," says Corry. “The food was great and I liked campfire cooking." The trip, geared for historical accuracy in the 21st century, included sleeping in tipis, cooking over an open fire, and travel by wagon. “It was rocky and bumpy," says Jessie, “but the trip will make you stronger." Jessie goes on to say, “I hope people will enjoy our exhibit."

The exhibit will be on display January 10 through the end of the month. For more information, please contact Stacey Moore at the NHTIC (307) 261-7780.
