The Bureau of Land Management, (BLM) Winnemucca District, Black Rock Field Office, is pleased to announce the results of the Burning Man Post Event Inspection (PEI) for the 2016 event. This year’s PEI took place on October 4, 2016 by a team comprised of six BLM staff and approximately 37 of Black Rock City’s (BRC) Playa Restoration Crew, known as “Resto."
The 2016 Burning Man event PEI concludes that cumulatively across all four Core Inspection Areas, BRC’s Playa Restoration crew was successful in meeting the 2016 Burning Man SRP Cleanup Standard of less than 1.0 ft2/acre with an average Core Inspection Area measurement of 0.77 ft2/acre.
“The Burning Man event has the largest Leave No Trace operations on federally managed lands within the U.S.," says William Mack, Black Rock Field Manager. “To maintain the standards of Leave No Trace, it requires constant coordination between the BLM and BRC, participant education, and the work of the Resto crew post-event, which has been very good over the past several years."
Since 2000, BLM and BRC’s Resto crew have closely coordinated conducting the PEI. A PEI is required following each Burning Man event per one of the stipulations of the BRC 2016 Burning Man event Special Recreation Permit.
