UKIAH, Calif. - The Bureau of Land Management’s (BLM) Ukiah Field Office and the Lake-Napa unit of CAL FIRE will conduct prescribed burns in the Bear Creek area in Colusa County starting the week of June 19th, if air quality and fire prescription conditions are suitable.
The burns will take place both at Bear Creek and Thompson Canyon near the intersection of Highways 16 and 20. Up to 259 acres may be burned.
“Our goal is to provide for homeowner safety and control noxious weeds such as yellow starthistle, medusahead rye and barbed goatgrass," said Jeff Tunnell, BLM fire mitigation and education specialist.
The BLM works to promote safety and reminds all Californians to take action to protect their homes and neighborhoods from wildfire by reducing hazardous fuels. Wildfire behavior is based largely on weather and fuel conditions. Homeowners and renters are encouraged to reduce flammable materials near their homes and in communities now, before fire season starts, to help keep everyone safe, including the firefighters.
