BLM seeks public comments on mineral materials program

The following press releases was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Land Management on June 29, 2017. It is reproduced in full below.

(MILES CITY, Mont.) - If you have an interest in mining mineral materials such as sand, gravel and scoria in eastern Montana, the BLM Miles City Field Office would like to get your comments.

“Public lands provide valuable, tangible goods," said Shane Findlay, Supervisory Mineral Resource Specialist at the Miles City Field Office. “We rely on and use these resources every day to build our roads, heat our homes and feed our families."

The BLM is preparing a programmatic environmental assessment (PEA) to analyze mineral materials excavation activities. The purpose of the PEA is to analyze standard operations and site specific resource issues. The effort is expected to reduce time and staff involvement needed to process individual applications, resulting in a cost savings to both the applicant and the BLM.

Comments will be accepted until July 31, 2017.

More detailed information on the project and how to provide comments is available online on the BLM ePlanning project page at: http://bit.ly/2oYN7LU.
