KEMMERER, Wyo. - On Thursday, Aug. 31, the Bureau of Land Management Kemmerer Field Office invites families, individuals, and organizations to help clean up the “Badlands" area outside of Mountain View. This event is part of an early celebration of National Public Lands Day (NPLD).
The project area is a popular dirt-biking spot for both locals and visitors alike. Over the years, trash has built up in the sagebrush.
Volunteers of all ages are welcome to participate. Check-in begins at 9 a.m. at the Badlands parking area, located about 4-5 miles southwest of Mountain View, along Hwy 414. The event will run until approximately 11 a.m.
Proper work gear is encouraged, including hats, long pants, and sturdy shoes. Sunscreen is also highly recommended. Gloves, trash bags, water and snacks will be provided.
NPLD began in 1994 with 700 volunteers and three sites, and has since greatly increased in interest and participation. In 2013, approximately 175,000 volunteers worked at 2,237 sites in every state, the District of Columbia, Guam and Puerto Rico. In this way, NPLD is a highly-anticipated opportunity for the BLM to partner with communities to support conservation in a multiple-use capacity.
