Parker, Ariz. - The Bureau of Land Management (BLM), Lake Havasu Field Office is planning to conduct prescribed burning on the Parker Strip, October 9 through April 1, 2018, as weather conditions allow. The burn area is located seven miles northeast of Parker, Ariz., and half a mile west of Parker Dam Road near Crossroads, on the California side of the Colorado River.
Burning is expected to occur multiple times during the time span, to eliminate slash piles created during maintenance of BLM recreation sites and fuel breaks on the Parker Strip. The removal and controlled burning of vegetation piles helps to reduce the threat of wildfires and improves access to the river.
BLM fire management personnel will ignite the piles when weather conditions allow for safe burning to minimize any potential threat and smoke impacts to area residents and visitors.
Jeep trails accessing the burn area may be temporarily closed and monitored by fire personnel during the burn operation to provide for public safety. Residents and visitors should expect some light smoke in the area during burn operations.
