CASPER Wyo. - The Bureau of Land Management has contracted to complete a vegetation treatment on Flat-Top Butte in the Bates Hole area of Natrona County, Wyo.
The objective of the vegetation treatment is to improve wildlife habitat, specifically for mule deer and sage-grouse. The treatment will involve the use of heavy equipment to masticate juniper trees encroaching into sagebrush and mahogany stands. This treatment is part of managing BLM administered public lands for the benefit of current and future generations, supporting conservation as BLM implements its multiple-use mission.
For safety, persons should avoid the area as there will be flying debris and equipment operator visibility is extremely limited. The contractor will be operating on the project through October 2017, as weather permits.
If there are any questions regarding this treatment, contact Jim Wright, wildlife biologist at 307-261-7600.
