SKULL VALLEY, Ariz.- The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will conduct vegetation treatments on public lands approximately 3 miles southeast of Skull Valley, Arizona. The purpose of these treatments is to reduce the intensity and severity of future wildland fires near the communities of Skull Valley, Kirkland and Wilhoit. Vegetation treatments will begin January 2018.
The treatments will consist of mowing and mastication of shrubs, which will reduce hazardous fuels, making the area less flammable and providing increased protection of urban areas. Treatments will also create a defensible buffer for a safer fire suppression environment for fire personnel.
Location of treated areas may vary depending on vegetation types, topography and the presence of cultural resources.
