Environmental Assessment for June Oil and Gas Lease Sale Available for Public Comment

The following press releases was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Land Management on Jan. 17, 2018. It is reproduced in full below.

BATTLE MOUNTAIN, Nev. - The Environmental Assessment for parcels of public land nominated for lease in the Competitive Oil and Gas Lease Sale scheduled for June 12, 2018 on the Bureau of Land Management’s Battle Mountain District is available for public review and comment. These parcels have the potential for future oil and gas exploration and development. The public review period concludes Feb. 15, 2018.

The BLM received nominations for 166 parcels of public land to offer for leasing, totaling approximately 313,715 acres. A detailed listing of parcels is available in the EA and online. The EA analyzes potential impacts of two alternatives: the Proposed Action and No Leasing Alternative. Under the Proposed Action, all 166 proposed lease parcels would be included in the lease sale. Appropriate lease stipulations are identified for each parcel to help protect resources. Under the No Leasing Alternative, none of the parcels would be offered for lease sale. Other alternatives may be added following the public comment period.

The EA can be viewed on the BLM NEPA Register Page at Goo.gl/LGbo2o. Written comments will be accepted until Feb. 15, 2018 and can be submitted to the BLM Battle Mountain District Office, 50 Bastian Road, Battle Mountain, NV 89820, or to the Tonopah Field Office at P.O Box 911, Tonopah, NV 89049; or emailed to BLM_NV_BMDO_2018OilandGasLeaseEA@blm.gov.
