GLENNALLEN, Alaska - The Bureau of Land Management Glennallen Field Office is holding three open houses to seek public input and consider new information affecting management of 320,000 acres of BLM-managed public lands in the Haines and Skagway areas.
The BLM welcomes and values diverse views, and the information garnered from this outreach will be used to develop supplemental alternatives to the previous Ring of Fire Draft Resource Management Plan Amendment, as applied in the Haines area. Decisions to be made include whether to retain or change special land area designations, whether to retain a monitor and control area for wildlife studies, and whether to establish a maximum number of annual helicopter landings on these BLM-managed public lands.
In 2012, the BLM put the plan amendment process on hold because the agency needed additional resource studies. Those studies are complete and there is new information to consider. The open house events will provide communities and stakeholders with a chance to recap the previous planning effort, review comments previously submitted, learn about the new information and share perspectives on the future management of BLM-managed public lands.
Public comments will be accepted through May 31, 2018. Open houses will be on the dates, locations and times listed below:
* Monday, April 2, 2018 - Juneau - 5:30-7:30 p.m., Dzantiki Heeni Middle School Library
* Wednesday, April 4, 2018 - Haines - 6:30-8:30 p.m., Chilkat Center for the Arts
* Thursday, April 5, 2018 - Skagway - 4:30-6:30 p.m., AB Hall Reception Room
