BLM Alaska seeks public input on Squirrel River Area Management Plan

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Bureau of Land Management Anchorage Field Office is holding public meetings and seeking public comments in preparing a Recreation Area Management Plan and associated environmental assessment for the Squirrel River Special Recreation Management Area, east of Kotzebue.

The Squirrel River planning effort will include options to balance a variety of recreational opportunities with other important uses while sustaining the resources and values of the area. This public outreach will identify relevant issues to be considered including subsistence use, commercial recreation operations, off-highway vehicle use, and enhancement of visitor services. The meeting schedule is as follows:

* Monday, April 9, 2018 - Kiana - 1 p.m., Kiana Community Building

* Tuesday, April 10, 2018 - Noorvik - 1 p.m., Noorvik Community Center

* Wednesday, April 11, 2018 - Kotzebue - 1 p.m., Northwest Arctic Borough Assembly Chambers

* Monday, April 16, 2018 - Fairbanks - 5:30 p.m., BLM Fairbanks District Office

* Tuesday, April 17, 2018 - Anchorage - 5:30 p.m., BLM Anchorage Field Office
