(BUTTE, Mont.) - High waters from spring runoff have caused significant damage to Sheep Mountain Road near Clancy, Mont., prompting its temporary closure.
“Portions of the road have collapsed at its intersection with Lump Gulch Road," said Don Despain, supervisory rangeland management specialist with the Bureau of Land Management’s Butte Field Office. “In the interest of public safety, the road was closed at that intersection."
Once the waters recede, Despain added, the BLM will patch the damage so it can be re-opened to traffic.
“Our long-term goal is to replace the culvert on Sheep Mountain Road for a permanent fix," he said.
Sheep Mountain Road provides the only legal access to the Clancy OHV Area and Sheep Mountain Rock Climbing Area.
