LOVELOCK, Nev. - The Rocky Fire started just after 7:15 p.m. on June 23, 20 miles north of Lovelock. The fire started on private land, has burned 500 acres and is currently 50% contained as of 6:30 a.m. Sunday morning. The area was under a non-mandatory evacuation and residents have since been allowed to return home.
Fire units from the Winnemucca BLM, Lovelock Volunteer Fire Department, and Rye Patch VFD are currently on the fire. Resources on site include 11 engines, 3 dozers, 2 Single Engine Air Tankers, 1 helicopter, 1 type 2 hand crew. Structures were threatened early in the incident and one abandoned out building and vehicle burned. Fire fighters were successful in keeping the fire away from homes.
Full containment is expected this evening. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
