ELKO, Nev. - The Bureau of Land Management, Elko District Office has concluded the Outside Goshute Herd Management Area Wild Horse Gather. The BLM gathered and removed 135 excess wild horses from public and private lands outside the Goshute HMA in eastern Nevada.
The BLM transported wild horses removed from the range to the Indian Lakes Off-Range Wild Horse and Burro Corral in Fallon, Nev. to be readied for the BLM’s wild horse and burro adoption program. Un-adopted wild horses will be placed in long-term pastures where they will be humanely cared for and retain their “wild" status and protection under the 1971 Wild Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act.
The Outside Goshute HMA Wild Horse Gather began on July 2, and concluded on July 12. An Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) veterinarian was available throughout gather operations.
