CASPER, Wyo. - In response to a request for extension, the Bureau of Land Management High Plains District Office is extending the public comment period by 30 days for the Wright Area Coal Leasing 10th Circuit Court Remand Draft Environmental Assessment. The BLM will accept public comments on the draft EA through Oct. 4, 2018. We are committed to working with local communities and stakeholders, and extending the comment period will ensure that interested parties have time to review the draft EA and provide constructive feedback.
BLM Wyoming is preparing this EA in response to a 2017 District Court order requiring the BLM to revise its analysis of coal leasing in the Wright Area in Campbell County, Wyoming, in the Powder River Basin. The BLM initially prepared an Environmental Impact Statement and issued a decision in 2012 approving leasing in the Wright Area, which includes the South Hilight Field, South Porcupine, North Porcupine and North Hilight Field federal coal tracts. The BLM is now preparing this EA to comply with the 10th Circuit remand and analyze how greenhouse gas emissions could change if the coal was not leased.
The Draft EA is available for review at the following link: https://go.usa.gov/xntFJ. We will accept comments until Oct. 4, 2018, a 30-day extension from the original deadline of Sept. 4, 2018. Comments may be submitted by mail to Bureau of Land Management, High Plains District Office, Attn: Sarah Bucklin, 2987 Prospector Drive, Casper, WY 82604; or online athttps://go.usa.gov/xntFJ.
All comments, including personal identifying information, may be made publicly available at any time. The BLM will not consider anonymous comments.
