GRANGEVILLE, ID - Land management agencies in north-central Idaho will lift Stage 1 Fire Restrictions in the Grangeville Fire Restrictions Area - Riverbreaks Zone 1 and the Hells Canyon National Recreation Area effective at one minute after midnight (12:01 a.m.) on Friday, August 31.
The fire restrictions are rescinded by agencies managing state, private, and public lands in the area, including the USDA Forest Service, Nez Perce Tribe, Clearwater-Potlatch Timber Protective Association, Bureau of Land Management, and Idaho Department of Lands. Fire management officials opted to move out of Stage 1 Fire Restrictions because fire danger indices (the relative number indicating the severity of wildland fire danger, determined from burning conditions and other variables) are moving downward with fall weather less than a month away.
A campfire can be one of the best parts of camping and can provide necessary warmth to hunters and other outdoor enthusiasts-but don’t forget your responsibility to maintain and extinguish your campfire properly in order to prevent wildfires. Fires can start quickly and will burn in vegetation that seems green, but is drying out. Remember-if it’s too hot to touch, it’s too hot to leave! Pour water, add dirt, and stir your campfire until it is cold to the touch. Never leave a campfire unattended. One spark is all it takes to start a wildfire.
