MORENO VALLEY, Calif. - The Bureau of Land Management’s Barstow Field Office has made available for 30-day public comment an Environmental Assessment on a route designation proposal affecting 130 miles of routes located on BLM public lands currently maintained by the county of San Bernardino’s Public Works Department. Segments of these routes that are under county management are limited to street legal vehicles, as defined by the California Department of Motor Vehicles.
The BLM believes partnerships and coordination with local jurisdictions are vital to managing sustainable, working public lands. The route designation proposal aims to provide public access, while providing consistent management of 130 miles of routes across BLM-managed public lands and San Bernardino County jurisdiction.
The proposal includes changing the designated motorized use of the 130 miles of routes managed by the BLM to street legal vehicles to align with county management. This proposed change is temporary until a final decision on the West Mojave Route Network Project is issued which is anticipated in Fall 2019.
The Environmental Assessment can be viewed at https://go.usa.gov/xPrxr or by visiting the Barstow Field Office at 2601 Barstow Road, Barstow, CA 92311. The public is reminded that before including personal address, phone number, email addresses, or other personal identifying information in submitted comments to be aware that the entire comment, including personal identifying information, may be made publicly available at any time. The public may request the BLM withhold personal identifying information from public review, however, the BLM cannot guarantee that it will be able to do so.
The public is encouraged to provide written comments on or before Oct. 12, 2018, via mail: Bureau of Land Management, Barstow Field Office, 2601 Barstow Road, Barstow, CA 92311, or by email to ksymons@blm.gov, or by fax: 760-252-6099.
