CARLSBAD, N.M. - The Bureau of Land Management Carlsbad Field Office is seeking volunteers for its upcoming National Public Land Day events on Sept. 22. In recognition of this annual observance, the BLM will conduct cleanup work at the Black River and Cottonwood Day Use Area.

In concert with other events around the country, the BLM is encouraging the public to join BLM staff in making a difference for public land resources they use and value. Volunteer trash crews will work in teams with BLM staff to remove illegally dumped household waste. Other crews will help install burlap bags filled with mulch material to be placed for erosion control structures.

Those interested should meet at 8 a.m. at the BLM Carlsbad Field Office which is located at 620 E. Greene St., Carlsbad, NM 88220. It is recommended that volunteers wear a hat, long sleeves, good walking shoes and sun protection. The BLM will be providing water, lunch, cleanup equipment, safety gear and gloves.
