WASHINGTON-The Bureau of Land Management released an Environmental Assessment (EA) today that analyzes the potential effects of renewing hardrock mineral leases, which include updated stipulations to protect natural resources, in the Superior National Forest.
The leases are located in the Rainy River Watershed near the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. The EA includes updated stipulations identified by the U.S. Forest Service to be imposed on the leases in order to mitigate possible risks to water resources and wilderness areas. The 30-day public comment period on the EA will conclude on Jan. 22, 2019.
Written comments should be addressed to MN Hardrock Lease Renewal EA Project Manager, Northeastern States District Office, 626 E. Wisconsin Ave., Ste. 200, Milwaukee, WI 53202.
