The following press releases was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Land Management on Feb. 11, 2019. It is reproduced in full below.

(MILES CITY, Mont.) - The Bureau of Land Management will burn slash piles in Rosebud County this winter as weather conditions allow.

Local authorities will be contacted by the BLM prior to any burning taking place. Smoke will likely be visible at times and will be monitored to minimize impacts to sensitive areas.

The piles of non-marketable timber and debris are located approximately 25 miles south west of Ashland near Birney. Crews will ignite these piles in stages once there is enough snow cover and when weather conditions are favorable.

These piles are the byproduct of projects undertaken to reduce the threat of wildfire. For more information regarding this project, contact Paul Pauley at: (406) 233-2800.
