BAKER CITY, Ore.-The Bureau of Land Management’s National Historic Oregon Trail Interpretive Center will be connecting kids to public lands and America’s natural and cultural heritage.
The fun begins Sunday, June 1, with “Time Travels Through the American West," performed at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., featuring singer-songwriter Christina Lynn Martin and cowboy poet Butch Martin.
Local painter Sandra Ford will be creating original artwork on site from 9 to 11 a.m. Sundays, June 2 and 16, featuring the landscapes and site features of the Oregon Trail.
Meet a Swainson’s hawk and other raptors of the Morley Nelson Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 5.

National Get Outdoors Day, Saturday, June 8, is a fee free day and will be packed with family-friendly activities. Highlights include the Sagebrush Scramble 5K Fun Run/Walk, Pioneer Pet Parade, Trail Bingo and a special Agents of Discovery (free app) Oregon Trail mission!
Award-winning author Susan Butruille will present “Uppity Women on the Westward Trails" at 1 p.m. Sunday, June 9.
Meet adopted mustangs Flint and Norm, watch training demonstrations of wild horses, and view “Unbranded" during Wild Horse Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 15.
And don’t miss Buffalo Bill and Dr. Jo’s musical program “Along the Oregon Trail" daily at 11 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. daily Wednesday-Sunday, June 26-30.
In the Flagstaff Gallery, a new interactive exhibit opens June 19. “Dead Reckoning: Navigating the Frontier West" showcases the challenges, equipment and landmarks pioneers relied on as they traversed the Oregon Trail.

The National Historic Oregon Trail Interpretive Center is located just east of Baker City. Take Exit 302 from Interstate 84 onto Oregon Highway 86 and proceed about five miles. NHOTIC is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. Admission for adults is $8.00; seniors $4.50; and children 15 and under are free. America the Beautiful Interagency Park Passes are accepted.
