GUNNISON, Colo. - The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) today published a notice in the Federal Register proposing to convey 43.09 acres of public land to the Town of Lake City to continue operation of the Lake City Ski Hill and to enhance recreational opportunities.
The Lake City Ski Hill is located one mile south of Lake City and has operated as a community ski area under various BLM authorizations since 1966. It serves as the primary winter recreation hub for Lake City residents and visitors.
“Being a good neighbor to local government is important in serving our shared constituents," said Gunnison Field Manager Elijah Waters. “Lake City will be able to continue using this land while carrying out its plans to improve the ski hill for the benefit and enjoyment of all Hinsdale County residents and visitors who bring tourism dollars that positively influence the local economy."
The proposal is consistent with goals in the Lake City and Hinsdale County Community Plan to maintain and improve social and economic conditions in the Lake City area.

The notice gives the public 45 days to comment on the proposal. Written comments may be mailed or hand delivered to Lake City R&PP, BLM Gunnison Field Office, 210A West Spencer Ave., Gunnison, CO 81230. Comments may also be submitted via email to blm_co_gfo_nepa_comments@blm.gov or via fax to (970) 642-4990. Comments are most helpful if received by August 8, 2019.
