(BUTTE, Mont.) - The Bureau of Land Management will replace a culvert at the Lump Gulch crossing on Sheep Mountain Road near Clancy beginning Aug. 19.
Sheep Mountain Road will be closed until the project is finished, tentatively scheduled for Sept. 13. The Sheep Mountain Recreation areas, including the rock climbing areas and OHV trails will also not be accessible during this time.
The BLM project is designed to fix an ongoing problem: the culvert has washed out twice in the past five years due to high runoff.
“We're trying to get the necessary upgrade to the culvert completed as quickly as we can to minimize disruption to local residents and public land users," said Casey Trang, BLM Western Montana District Administrative Officer.
The public is reminded to always seek landowner permission before crossing private property.
