Dillon Field Offices announces new bear food storage device check out system

The following press releases was published by the U.S. Department of the Interior, Bureau of Land Management on Aug. 15, 2019. It is reproduced in full below.

(DILLON, Mont.) - One important thing to do before recreating outdoors in Montana is to learn about bears; their behavior, and how to avoid them. Carrying bear spray when in bear habitats and being aware of your surroundings is a good way to stay safe. Another thing people can do is store their food, garbage, and attractants, appropriately to keep from attracting bears.

The Dillon BLM Field Office has started a bear food storage device check out system that is free to the public. Items include YETI coolers, Bear Kegs, Ursacks (lightweight food storage bag), and a portable 53 foot electric fence.

Items are available for checkout at the Dillon Field Office, 1005 Selway Drive, Dillon, Montana
