MILWAUKEE-The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Northeastern States District (NSD) is soliciting bids on a lease to manage horseback riding recreation resources located on the Meadowood Special Recreation Management Area in Lorton, Virginia. The NSD published the solicitation for competitive sealed bids in the Federal Register, Sept. 13, 2019. The solicitation is for a single, competitive lease to operate an equestrian facility which includes a horse boarding barn with indoor arena, outdoor arena, pastures, and utility buildings.
“This lease solicitation represents shared conservation stewardship between the BLM and the local community to manage recreational resources on public lands near the Nation’s capital," said Dean Gettinger, BLM District Manager for the Northeastern States District. This action is supported by Department of Interior Secretarial Order 3373 which increases outdoor recreation opportunities for all Americans, by ensuring their continued access to public land and waters that are managed by the Department. Equestrian recreational use has been popular at Meadowood since before the BLM acquired the property in a lands exchange with Fairfax County, Oct. 18, 2001.
Those who submit applications must reference the Federal Register Notice and comply with regulations pertaining to management of the lease. Lease applications and sealed bids must be received no later than 4:00 p.m. CT, Nov. 12, 2019, addressed to: Dean Gettinger, District Manager, Northeastern States District, 626 E. Wisconsin Ave., Suite 200, Milwaukee, WI 53202.
