Craig, Colo. - The Bureau of Land Management and Routt County Riders invite volunteers to a National Public Lands Day event on Saturday, Sept. 28 to improve the Ridge, Rotary and Beall Trailheads near Steamboat Springs. The trailheads are on public land the BLM manages in Emerald Mountain, a day-use recreation area for mountain biking, hiking, horseback riding and Nordic skiing.
National Public Lands Day is the largest single-day volunteer effort for public lands. With 8.3 million acres of BLM-managed public land in Colorado, volunteers are vital to accomplish many important projects. In 2018, more than 3,500 volunteers contributed more than 190,000 hours to the BLM in Colorado.
Interested volunteers should meet at 9 a.m at the Ridge / Rotary Trailhead, approximately eight miles west of Steamboat Springs. Volunteers will remove barbed wire fence, install wood buck and rail fence, cleanup the area, and install a new information kiosk. Work should be complete by 3 p.m. Participants should bring work gloves and wear boots, long pants and a long-sleeved shirt. Lunch will be provided by Routt County Riders.
Directions: From downtown Steamboat Springs, head west on Lincoln Ave. Turn left on 13th (Routt County Road 33). Continue on Co. Rd 33 for about five miles. Turn left onto Co. Rd 45. Follow Co. Rd 45 for approximately one mile to the parking area on the left.
