REDDING, Calif. - Bureau of Land Management fire crews will be burning piles of brush and small trees near Lake Oroville in Butte County from Monday, Jan. 13, through Friday, Jan. 17. Crews will ignite the piles only when weather conditions and fuel moisture are suitable for safe and successful burning.
Firefighters plan to cover about 10 acres daily in the Stringtown Mountain/Ishi Pile Project. The site is about a mile south of Lake Oroville and about two miles east of California Highway 162.
Smoke will be visible from Lake Oroville recreation sites, the Forbestown area, and Highway 162 during ignition between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., each day. Light smoke will linger in area up to a day after burning. Fire crews will stay in the area each afternoon to monitor the piles after they burn.
Crews created the piles when vegetation was cut in projects designed to improve landscape health and to remove hazardous fuels that could feed wildfires.
