GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - The Bureau of Land Management is increasing campsite fees at the North Fruita Desert campground on 18 Road, north of Fruita, Colo. to improve facilities and expand camping opportunities in the North Fruita Desert Recreation Area.
The fee will increase from $10 per night to $20 per night. The increased fees will be directly used to fund ongoing maintenance, improve camping facilities, and develop new campsites in the recreation area. BLM will implement the fee increase in spring 2020.
“The North Fruita Desert has exceptional recreational opportunities and visitors love the access to the area’s bike trails directly from the campground," stated BLM Outdoor Recreation Planner Chris Pipkin. “The BLM wants to continue to provide services and facilities that help people enjoy their experiences, and the fees help us do that."
The BLM began charging fees at the campground in 2012. Since then, camping use has grown significantly. During peak seasons, campgrounds often reach full capacity prompting groups to share sites of camp outside developed campgrounds.
Recreation on BLM Colorado public lands supported more than 5,000 jobs and contributed $652.5 million to the economy in fiscal year 2018.
