KREMMLING, Colo. - The Bureau of Land Management is replacing a culvert over Spruce Creek on the Dice Hill Road in Grand County beginning June 15, to improve aquatic habitat for native fish. Dice Hill Road will be closed for the duration of the 30 to 60-day project.
The project will remove an old round culvert, replacing it with a bottomless arch culvert. The new culvert will have a native stream bed, improving aquatic habitat and making it easier for fish to move up- and downstream through the crossing. The affected segment of Spruce Creek contains a population of native Colorado River cutthroat trout.
“We have been working with Colorado Parks and Wildlife and Blue Valley Ranch to improve aquatic habitats on Spruce Creek," said Kremmling Field Manager Bill Mills. “This project will help secure and expand a population of native cutthroat trout."
An alternate route provides access around the project area. Signs and maps are posted in the project area to alert visitors to the road closure and project activities.
